The Q&A Archives: Lawn care 1

Question: Hi, we are going to have a party by May 16. We had a really poor lawn. We never really spend time to fix it. (We have an 11 mos old baby and we hardly have time for anything else.) The kind of soil we have is whatever left over from the house construction 3 yrs ago. We are thinking to purchase the instant lawn. (square foot by square foot) and place them on top of the lawn. Do you guys think it wo

Answer: I think you will have better results if you rent a core aerator, aerate your lawn, spread some compost over the top, water it in and then overseed your current lawn. The aerator will pull out plugs of grass and soil - leave them on the lawn and they will dissolve in rainwater or water from the sprinkler. The compost will work its way into the holes left by the aerator to help make your soil drain well and be looser and the grass seeds will germinate and green things up within 2-3 weeks. Best wishes with your lawn (and your party and your new baby!)
