| With most palms, propagation from seed is not difficult as long as a few basic requirements are met. Among the most important are fresh seed, good sanitation, proper medium, and proper hydration. The fleshy or fibrous fruit pulp frequently contains growth inhibitors. Removing it before planting will improve results. After cleaning the seeds, hydrate them by soaking them in water for 24 hours. Within 24 hours most fresh, viable seeds will sink. Use nursery pots filled with moistened seed starting mix. Bury the seeds in the medium to a depth of half the seed diameter and then cover over the tops. Set outdoors in a shady spot and keep the potting mix moist but not soggy wet. It can take several weeks for your seeds to germinate. You can't hurry them along - they will take their own time and grow when they are ready. Good luck with your project! |
