What causes my marigolds blossoms to turn black? They have been in the ground only 3 weeks.

Sounds like Botrytis (gray mold) to me! Gray mold thrives in very humid conditions. If your flowers are plagued with this problem, you'll need to increase air circulation around the plants by thinning them. Or, you can apply a preventive spray of Soap Shield. Good luck with your marigolds!
