The Q&A Archives: back yard lawn

Question: part of my back yard lawn is thin in some spot and have thatch i have a tow behind thatcher for my riding mower can i put seed down and work the seed into the soil with the thatcher and will it harm the seeds.

Answer: Since a thatcher rakes the lawn down to the soil you will need to finish dethatching (and raking up the debris or catching it in the mower's bag) and then overseed your lawn. If you do it at the same time the thatcher will pull up the seeds instead of allowing them to fall to the soil surface.
