The Q&A Archives: Removing retaining wall

Question: I have 2

Answer: I would sure assess the situation before removing the retaining wall. It may have been put up as a decorative feature or it may be actually holding back the earth so the soil doesn't erode away. If it's just a decorative wall, removing it won't cause any problems. If it is actually keeping a slope or hill from cascading down onto your landscape you might want to rethink your plan. If it's decorative you can simply plant more shrubs or even a groundcover in the area. Wish I had more suggestions!
