Start by removing all existing vegetation on the proposed lawn area and raking the soil smooth. Then broadcast your seeds and cover over lightly with compost to keep birds from feasting on the seeds. Keep the seeds moist by watering several times a day. The seeds should germinate in 7-14 days. Keep the new lawn watered well so it never dries out - every day or every other day - so the roots can become well established. Mow the lawn when it is 3 inches tall. Mow each time it reaches 2 1/2 to 3 inches in height, taking off only one inch each time. After you have mowed it twice you can fertilize it. Enjoy your new lawn!
