The Q&A Archives: Raised Beds

Question: I'm going to build a raised bed for vegetables but can't find cedar or redwood- Can I use Douglas fir boards? Plastic and stone are too cost prohibitive and I want to avoid PT.

Answer: The only drawback is that when in contact with the soil, Douglas Fir will eventually rot and will have to be replaced within 4-20 years.
