Now you know why it pays to read the fine print on the product label! You can use something like Preen for Vegetable Gardens, or you can simply place a thick layer of mulch material over the bare soil in your garden to prevent weed seeds from germinating. Another option is to cover the entire bed with a weed blocking fabric and then cut slits or holes and plant your tomatoes. The weed barrier fabric will last for several years and effectively keep weeds out. Best wishes with your garden!
