I saw a segment on the news about a garden. They laid straw down around all the plants. I can see where it would keep moisture and prohibit weed growth. Is this a good thing to do? |
You can use straw, compost, shredded leaves, pine needles, or whatever organic material that is available in your local area to use as a mulch around your plants. Mulches help slow water evaporation, moderate soil moisture, suppress weeds and release some nutrients into the soil as they decompose. So, yes, placing mulch around your plants, trees and shrubs is a good idea. Best wishes with your landscape! |
