| A yucca plant was planted next to a walnut tree in our front yard. Part of the yucca plant's root system had become part of the walnut tree. The tree was downed during the recent tornado. My husband tried to remove the yucca from the walnut tree yet was unsuccessful. Our public works department removed the stump of the walnut tree today in doing so the yucca plant fell apart and broke in several pieces. My neighbor brought the pieces to our porch in the shade. My husband put two parts of the plants in buckets of water and some of the roots in water also. We would like to know if we would be able to replant the root or the plants and would they survive? |
| That is a tough question. There are several species of yucca grown in your region. Yours is most likely Spanish-Bayonet or Aloe Yucca (Yucca aloifolia) or Spanish Dagger Yucca (Yucca gloriosa). Both of these can be propagated from stem and root cuttings. Some of the other yuccas are much more difficult to transplant or propagate. Your yuccas have been through alot. I'd try planting them and see if they make it. Water them in well at planting, but then back off and only water when dry. |
