Hello, now that it is spring time, I'm interested in trimming down my butterfly bush that got pretty big last year. How much can I crop? My thought was that I wanted it smaller so I thought I'd cut most of it down to ground. ... Can you cut too much?

In some gardening regions butterfly bushes freeze down to soil level and they resprout each spring so you can safely cut yours all the way down to ground level if you'd like - or you can simply trim it back to whatever height you want. The flowers are produced on new growth and when you prune you are encouraging new growth so go ahead and clip away. Best wishes with your garden!
