can i use oak leaves in my compost pile?

Oak leaves decompose so slowly that they are better off left out of the compost pile and instead used as mulch around your trees and shrubs. If you shred them, they might decompose faster, but they will still be recognizable when the rest of your compost is finished and ready to be used.
