I do not know the name of the grass in my lawn. I live in the west end of the San Fernando Valley with hot summers.
The grass grows 6 to 8 inches when mowed every 10 to 12 days. It gets watered 3 days a week for 15 minutes.
Please recommend a seed type or brand that can be used to cover bare patches and over seed small thin areas of lawn.

Something that grows that much is probably tall fescue or a mixture of Kentucky blue and tall fescue. Check the grass blends or mixtures in your local garden center - they often have pictures of the grass blades on the packages. If so, match your current turf as closely as possible and you will barely notice the new grass in the patched areas.
