too much of it. Can I safely use roundup when there's other plants in the same bed? It grew too much and too fast as a result of all the rain

Using Round Up in your perennial bed isn't a good idea. Any overspray will damage your desireable plants - and Round Up will kill the tops of the Lily of the Valley, but not the entire plant. This is because they have storage bulbs and will simply keep regenerating if the tops are killed. I'm afraid the best way to eliminate them is to dig them up, roots and all.
