I need to put mulch down but the area is SO large, I can't afford it. I do have a lot of pine trees..can I use the pine cones or needles as mulch?

You can use any readily available organic matter for mulch. Pine needles are fine, as are pine cones. Sometimes county agencies have compost or shredded leaves free for the hauling. check with your local cooperative extension office or solid waste department to see if they have compost available. Good luck with your garden.
