Last year I had all the shrubs removed from around my house. Without paying for a landscaper, how do I even out the lines and make it look nice myself. The bushes were old and overgrown and now its full of weeds and no nice line around house.

You can either use a garden hose to guide you into making a straight line or you can drive stakes into the ground and then string line to help you keep things straight as you dig out the grass or weeds to make a straight line. Once you've gotten a shallow trench dug to indicate where the bed will be, start digging out all the vegetation and debris. Then add some compost or other organic matter to the bed and plant new plants. Enjoy your new garden!
