So whats the secret to keeping a hanging fern alive. I seem to always kill them!! I hang them on my front porch which doesn't get a lot of sun due to the overlay of the roof, is this why? I water it every 3 days or so, is that too much, not enough? I bought one a week ago, looked great, and is already turning brown in some spots, help!! Thank-you in advance :)

Ferns like shade and moist soils. They thrive with humidity. So, it might be that it's getting direct sunshine, which will turn the leaves brown. Plants in containers dry out quickly so they need to be checked everyday and watered whenever the top of the soil begins to dry out. When you check to see if it needs watering, mist the leaves or irrigate the foliage with your sprinkling can. Given the TLC outlined above, your fern should thrive. Hope it recovers soon!
