Answer: I think you're right in leaving the peony where it is for now. I'd plant colorful annuals around it for this year and then next January or February dig the peony (while it is dormant) and replant it in a better place. After moving the peony you can plant more permanent perennials and small shrubs in the bed. This will give you all summer to visit nurseries and garden centers to find just the right plants for your new landscape. Enjoy!
