The Q&A Archives: Pieris in Houston

Question: I wonder if Pieris, Lilly of the Valley, shrubs would grow in the Houston area.

Answer: Pieris prefers growing conditions similar to those of Rhododendrons and Azaleas. It may be too hot in Houston for pieris. If you decide to try anyway, plant your Japanese Andromeda in a rich, organic, moist soil with an acidic pH. Best wishes with your garden!
