Mushrooms grow when there is something underground decomposing. It could be dead tree roots, construction debris or even dead grass roots. There's really no way to stop them from appearing unless you dig down into the soil to see what's feeding them and remove the source of their food. The best way to deal with the mushrooms is exactly what you are doing. Pull or rake them out of the lawn, preferably before they release their spores. Best wishes with your lawn!
