The Q&A Archives: care for a peach tree

Question: i have a 2 yr old peach tree with many baby peaches. Do I need to break off some of the peaches so there are only a few per branch?

Answer: Peach trees will thin themselves in June by dropping excess fruit but since your tree is young, I think you should thin them out, as well. Wait until natural fruit drop occurs and then hand-thin peaches in mid to late June to an average spacing of one peach to every 6 to 8 inches of fruiting wood. Best wishes with your peach tree!
