The Q&A Archives: creeping vines

Question: I have a light pole in my front yard that I've been trying for a few yrs now to grow a clinging vine that flowers and that would eventually cover the whole post. the post is all metal and latticed

Answer: An evergreen vine native to New York, Lonicera sempervirens (trumpet honeysuckle), should grow well over the lamp post. You may need to coax it by tying it to the post until the stems become rigid enough to hold the plant up. Best wishes with your new vine!
