Tulips are one of the most popular spring flowering bulbs. The bulbs should be planted in the fall as soon as they are available for purchase. This allows them sufficient time to root before the ground freezes. The flowering stem and leaves will come up the following spring. Tulip bulbs should be planted about 6 inches deep in a sunny spot with well-drained (not soggy) soil.
