Texas Clump Grass is a fine textured clumping grass but it isn't common in North Carolina turfs. Since I don't know which type of turfgrass you are growing or what the weed might be, I'm going to provide a webpage address from North Carolina State University that will walk you through the process of identification of the weed and the turfgrass you are growing so you can determine just what your alternatives are for controlling the weed. The site has photos and descriptions so I think it will be helpful:

Just click on the image that most closely resembles the weed and you will be presented with other photos. Enjoy browsing!
