The Q&A Archives: plants around a pool

Question: I would like to know what types of shrubs and plants can be planted around a 24' above ground pool that is 2' in the ground.

Answer: An important consideration when landscaping around a pool is choosing plants that will not create a lot of litter to foul the water. A second consideration is tolerance of chlorinated water that might be splashed onto the foliage. Some shrubs that fit both considerations include Juniper, Lavender, and Viburnum davidii. Perennials include Agapanthus (Lily-of-the-Nile), Armeria (Thrift), Canna, Colocasia (Elephant's Ear), Coreopsis, Gazania, Daylily, Kniphofia uvaria (Red-Hot Poker), Yucca, Phormium, and Limonium.
