My grandmother has a rose bush in her yard and weeds continue to grow around them. She wants to spray a week killer but I've told her to wait until I can make sure it wont kill the rose bush. Suggestions?

I'm glad you waited because most weed killers will affect the roots of the rose bush. I know this isn't a popular reply but if you pull the weeds out, roots and all and then lay landscape fabric or weed barrier over the bare soil and cover it with bark mulch or compost, you will get rid of the weeds once and for all. The landscape fabric will still allow water to penetrate but it will block the sunshine to the soil surface so weed seeds won't be able to sprout. Best wishes with your roses!
