The Q&A Archives: boxwood

Question: My boxwood hedge turned yellowish this winter. How far down should I prune it?

Answer: Some boxwoods naturally turn yellow in the winter but then green up again in the spring so I wouldn't cut any of the plant down until you see new growth. If the foliage turns orange or brown, you can prune it off but with yellow foilage, I'd leave it alone for a few weeks. You may have the type that naturally turns yellow.
