The Q&A Archives: Thinning out seedlings

Question: I planted cucumbers and beans from seeds. I forgot about the thinning them out when they we're tiny. The beans are now 8 to 10in high and the cucumbers are about 4ins. Can I still thin these out?

Answer: You can thin them, in fact you can probably transplant the extras to new places in the garden. Just carefully remove them and try not to damage the roots as you dig. Transplant them and then shade them from hot sunshine for a few days until the roots re-establish themselves. Best wishes with your garden!
