We had a young camellia planted in April. In the center of several leaves there is a large brown spot. The condition seems to be spreading. What could be going on here?

It sounds like a fungal leaf spot and to keep the problem from spreading just pick off the affected leaves. Sometimes wet and warm spring weather will make plants susceptible to fungal leaf spots.
