scale on Kwanzan cherry - Knowledgebase Question

This is third year we are fighting scale on our Kwanzan cherry, have tried scale for spray but it is slowly killing our tree, dead branches each year. What and when can we spray our tree with and how early in spring in the NE.? Thank you.

Dormant oil sprays are recommended to manage scale population, and they should be applied in February in your region. Scale insects will be suffocated with properly applied and properly timed dormant oil sprays and there should be no damage to your tree unless the spray is over applied. There is nothing else registered for use in your gardening region. Sorry I can't provide alternatives.
