What is the best way to fertilize rhodys? Pine needles? Powdered fertilizers for rhodys? Ours always make it thru the winter and bloom some and grow a little each year, but do not thrive like I would like them to.

I would use a specially formulated Rhododendron/Azalea fertilizer along with a pine needle mulch to provide the rhodies with the acidity they crave. Rhodies generally are slow growers so don't expect exhuberant growth from them. They take their time and you will know that they are happy if they blossom each spring. Enjoy!
