What would you suggest for the best type of mulch to use around our shrubs? I've heard of some that get that bad mold on them. How do I avoid getting the wrong kind of mulch?

You can use most any organic matter for mulch. If it develops mold (which is a natural process during decomposition) you can simply rake it around to incorporate fresh air. This will destroy the mold and keep it from reappearing for quite sometime. Use whatever organic matter is most available in your local area. Best wishes with your garden!
