The Q&A Archives: frontlawn

Question: will bermuda grass choke out tall fescue? I overseeded with fescue mix. My backyard is 70%bermuda. Shoould I overseed this fall with bermuda or fescue?

Answer: I'm not sure why you overseeded with fescue - to keep the grass green in the cooler months? If so, I'd go with perennial rye. It actually dies out when the weather gets hot and lets the bermuda look nice. When the bermuda goes dormant, overseed with ryegrass again. If you do this year fall you will have a green lawn nearly all year around. Eventually the fescue will die out, especially if the bermuda becomes really thick. Best wishes with your lawn!
