LAST FALL, I PRUNED MY LILAC BUSH. THIS SPRING, I'M FINDING THAT THE BRANCHES ARE BEING STRIPPED OF THEIR BARK TO RAW WOOD, ABOUT 1-2 BRANCHES/WEEK. WHAT'S HAPPENING? I DON'T WANT TO LOSE THIS BUSH. PLEASE HELP! THANK YOU.

Sounds like a 4 legged critter or a bird but I don't know which and I don't know why. I'd try draping bird netting over the entire shrub and see if that is enough of a barrier to keep the pesky critters from doing any more damage. Hope you find out what's bothering your lilac!
