Surinam Cherry (Eugenia uniflora) is a free growing small tree. Native to Brazil, it can only take a brief period (about 2 hours) below freezing or damage will occur. It is commonly used as a hedge (3-5 feet tall) as it will tolerate frequent shearing. Birds love it during its summer fruiting season!

Plant in a sunny location in well drained soil and water every few days until established. Once established, it is quite drought tolerant. Fertilize in early spring and twice more at 2 month intervals to get rapid growth.
