This fall, can I plant my daffys under my Elm tree, in the mulch, which is 5

Sounds like a good plan to me. As long as the roots can penetrate into the soil they should be happy and strong enough to hold up the flowering stems and the foliage. They can't root well in the mulch so be sure to scoop out a little soil and nestle the bulbs in the scooped out area then cover with the mulch. Enjoy!
