I get a powdery, rust/orange colored fungus on the lawn in the summer. It gets all over my shoes and mower. How do I get rid of it, and better yet, prevent it from occurring in the future? |
Lawn rust looks like very small, rust colored spores on the leaf blades. It can give the lawn an orange-yellow cast. It does sound like your lawn has rust. Rust is prevalent when the weather is warm and the lawn is moist for an extended period. Rust is most common on Kentucky Bluegrass and ryegrass, but it can occur on any lawn. The best defense against rust is a good offense; fertilize your lawn to keep it healthy and mow on a regular schedule. Rust is nowhere near as prevalent on a healthy lawn that is mowed frequently. |
