I planted about 13 aborviates trees about 4ft tall about 5 years ago. My neighbor has existing two huge green maple trees over 30 feet high. When I planted these trees there many roots still in the ground and I cut out as much as I could. The trees have all tied, a little less each year. I was wondering is this due to the huge trees and what can I put there now that will make a hedge for privacy?

Viburnums will grow in the the soil, even with the maple roots. Give them a try. They are evergreen and grow into nice privacy hedges. Good luck with your new shrubs.
