We have a large area on side of house next to a fence that gets little sunlight, and now is covered with gravel. What can we plant there that doesn't require much water or sunlight? Also, have that same area on side of house that gets some water, and does have good soil. What veggies, if any will grow with only a few hours of sunlight and not too much water? Thanks. |
Some shrubs to grow in the shady area include Azaleas, Boxwood, Carolina Allspice, Enkianthus, Fothergilla, Rose of Sharon, Oak Leaf Hydrangea, Japanese Holly, Kerria, Oregon Grape Holly, Pieris japonica, Rhododendron, Alpine Current, and Snowberry. Vegetables require a minimum of 8 hours of direct sunshine but you may be able to grow leaf lettuces, radishes, kale, Swiss chard, peas and beans in limited sunlight. |
