The Q&A Archives: asparagus

Question: thank you for answering my question about my asparagus year can i dig up the plants, separate and replant.doubling my plants

Answer: The asparagus crowns will grow larger each year and evenutally you can dig and divide them but if yours are new plants, I'd allow them to grow for at least 4-5 years before digging and dividing. This way you can harvest for two or three years. When you dig and divide the plants will be considered first year plants and you shouldn't harvest until they are 2-3 years old.
