Cucumbers and squash are some of the most difficult veggies to transplant (corn is another). They dislike having their roots disturbed and if you plant them too deeply, the stems will rot. Next time you transplant, set them just slightly higher in the ground than they were growing in the nursery containers. This will keep the stems high and dry when the soil settles after being watered. Best wishes with your garden!
