The Q&A Archives: Effect of Music on Plants

Question: How can different types of music affect the plant growth?

Answer: I'm not aware that there have been definitive studies done on this topic. You hear all sorts of "anecdotal" evidence, but I haven't heard of any experiments done in a controlled, scientific manner. The way I figure it, if the person tending to the plants likes the music, he/she is likely to spend a little extra time, and give the plants a little extra care. If the music is offensive to that person, he/she may rush through the watering/fertilizing, and other chores, to escape the noise. I can't think of any other way that plants could be affected by different types of music. If you know of any conclusive studies, please let me know!
