| I live in Louisiana and have a backyard that is full of ginger plants. The plants are out of control and I want them gone. I have 5 separate plants, all planted in the worst locations in the yard, and I would like to dig them up. I attempted to do this however I was defeated by the dense clay soil and tightly packed roots that spread everywhere. I never did find the bulbs. Need advice! |
| Ginger plants can really reproduce and their masses of roots can go really deep so I'm afraid there's not much else you can do except dig them out. You might try soaking the soil the day before you plan to dig. Sometimes damp soil is easier to dig. Start digging just outside of the plant where there will be fewer roots and dig down at least 12 inches, then try to dig beneath the clump of roots to pry them out of the ground. You may want to try to enlist the help of a couple of teenage boys. They are usually strong enough to pry the clumps out of the ground. Good luck with your project! |
