I'm not a bird expert so I can't advise you on the fertilizer and soil but I do know that you can grow millet (found in bird seed) which will sprout into grasslike greens that your birds will love. You can simply spread the seeds on a small container of seed starting mix and set it in the sunshine. If you keep it moist it will sprout and grow within a few days and you can place it in your birdcage once the greens are about 2 inches tall. If you keep several containers growing you can replace them in the cage after your birds have eaten the sprouts. Good luck with your project!
