The flower spike on a hyacinth usually reaches about eight inches, but some are taller and some are shorter. Tulips should not be dug and moved until they are dormant - after the flower and foliage dies down on its own. At that time you can dig the bulb and plant it in your garden. If you dug the bulbs while the plant was still flowering you may have damaged the roots, which will cause the leaves to droop and die off. I don't know if they will make it now or not. Let's hope they do!
