Locust tree leaves are divided like feathers into many roundish leaflets, with clusters of sweet pea-shaped flowers in mid-spring. The trees are fairly fast growing. The purple flowering kind is 'Robinia ambigua', (Idaho Locust). It has bright magenta-rose flowers in 8" inch clusters.
