The Q&A Archives: Hydrangea In Containers

Question: Am interested in growing hydrangea. Do they do well if kept in a large pot rather than planted in the ground? I would like to have it on my patio and need to know if it would do well in a bright, shaded area, out of direct sun.

Answer: Hydrangeas would love the bright shaded spot you have in mind. The only problem I see would be keeping them moist enough. Make sure and select a very large container like a half whiskey barrel and fill it with a planting mix high in compost for good water holding ability. Plan on watering daily, especially in the heat of summer. Good luck with your plants!
