The Q&A Archives: Bleeding Heart

Question: I bought a Weeping Heart (not sure if vine or shrub) for Mother's Day. I need information on how to care for it.

Answer: You probably have Dicentra, the Bleeding Heart, with its graceful, divided, fern-like foliage and dainty heart-shaped pink or rose colored flowers. This upright but arching plant likes a cool, moist spot in the garden where there's afternoon shade. The tops will die down in the winter but new stems will grow from the roots each spring.
