Grub Ex is time release so you can apply in late spring (late May in your region). Grubs feed near the soil surface from August through October but go deep into the soil the other months of the year so they are not readily affected by the chemicals, with the exception of a time release product such as Grub Ex. Before applying, scout for grubs by peeling back the grass or by setting a coffee can with both ends open into the soil in your lawn and filling it with water. Grubs will float to the surface. You can scout now and again in July and August. Ten or more per square foot are necessary to justify treatment. Hope this information helps you get a handle on those pesky grubs!
