Answer: Sounds like you have your work cut out for you! You can hand dig the dandelions, roots and all or you can use a broadleaf weed killer on them. Whatever you do, be sure to mow them down anytime they produce flowers to prevent seedheads from developing. The seeds can float all over your lawn and you'll end up with a whole new generation of dandelions. You can rake the bare areas and overseed. Choosing grass seed can be difficult if you are trying to match your current grass. There are grass seed mixtures available and you might want to compare the photos on the packages with the type of turf you already have to try and match it. Once you get rid of the weeds, overseed and then put your lawn on a regular watering, mowing and fertlizing schedule, your lawn should grow thick enough to crowd out new weeds. Good luck with your lawn!
